Dental Implants
Dental implants are nothing but titanium roots which resemble natural roots and are used to implant onto the exposed jaw bone. The bone grows around the dental implant and they can be used for fixing of crowns, dentures and other orthodontic procedures. This type of treatment have paved way to restore teeth which otherwise would have proved too difficult to contain.
Teeth lost due to puss and decay can be replaced and a new root inserted and it can be worked upon. Previously metal plates were screwed on to the bones which then grew to cover it. But the implant of titanium roots does not require screwing to the bones and it has been a feasible alternative. Some patients have reported allergic reactions and they may have to remove their dental implants.
After extraction of the complete tooth the dental implant can be done immediately or after two weeks or after a long time when the patient feels It is necessary to have a dental implant . The surgical procedure can take a lot of time depending upon a lot of factors like the complexity of the root, the patient’s history, malocclusion, the strength of the bone etc.
CT scanning can be used to determine a lot of features and the dentist can get a proper idea of how the surgery can be planned. The use of CT scan can add to the cost but it is beneficial for the patient. The dental implants success depends upon a number of factors for example the quality of the material used. Most often titanium is used as it can be light and tough.
The strength of the bone is also a vital part of the success of the implant. The bone has to strong to withstand drilling and should be able to hold the implant. The bone should also be strong and fit to grow over the implant. Sometimes the dental implant can be failure if the bone does not grow over the implant, if the implant sits loose and also swelling and bone loss can occur around the implanted region. The process of titanium integration with the bone is not exactly known as it should have have been rejected as a foreign body in other cases the implant have been rejected.
Sometimes the dental implant can cause discomfort in patients owing to the damage of nerve tissues which is caused by bad surgery.
